Gonet Sulcova Blanc de Blancs Champagne Brut

Épernay, Champagne France

Four generations of winegrowers have succeeded one another in the vines, making them a benchmark for the independent domains of Champagne.  Vincent Gonet and his wife Davy Sulcova took the reins of the estate in 1985, and decided to settle in Épernay in order to create their brand “Gonet-Sulcova”. When it was created, an avant-garde house, which broke the traditional codes of traditional champagne bottle composition with its unique labels, designed by Davy Sulcova himself.
Their champagnes always have low dosage , so as not to mask the original juice and so that the terroir can fully express itself in each bottle.  Key to the family stance on sustainable wine making, the grapes are pressed close to the vines and stored in the family caves 12m underground.  Courageously, if the cuvée does not meet the requirement and the taste of the owners, it is not sold.

This award wining Blanc de Blancs uses chardonnay wines handpicked from the growers select 30-year old vines in Montgeux, Mesnil-sur-Oger and Troyes.  This ensures that this excellent Blanc de Blancs is balanced with subtle acidity, citrus and green apples that keeps your palate alive as an aperitif or with Loch bay lobsters and seafood!

Silverhand Brut NV

Kent, England

‘The Future is Sparkling’ is the motto of this amazing vineyard in the heart of Kent.  The 3 classic grapes of champagne are grown on the Kent chalk in an organic and sustainable techniques, including the use of a horse drawn plough and handpicked grapes!   The Silverhand Classic Brut is a timeless reflection of the unique terroir which uses the ‘Methode Traditional’, or the same way champagne is made, with the wine sitting on the lees, before being riddled and then disgorged, just like they do in France.

This wine will deliver citrus and white fruits on the nose and a delicate creamy feel to the palate and notes of honeysuckle, peaches and citrus as well as a slight toasty finish.  You will also notice brioche and croissants at the end from the time the wine has spent sitting with the lees, or its yeasty ingredients, that enhances those fruity and floral flavours.

Perfect for any occasion – sitting enjoying the Waternish and Skye views, as a pre-dinner drink, enjoyed with fresh Skye seafoods or even alongside fish and chips.  You decide – because ‘the Future is Sparkling’.

Silver Reign ‘Charmat method’ English Sparkling Wine

Kent, England

Based in Gravesham, Kent, as part of Kentish Wine Vault, there are plenty of plans in the works to expand, both in England and Provence. The winery has been designed by Norman Foster, and, in line with a five-year plan, should be fully open in 2024.

The team plans to focus on four key areas while challenging the status quo of English sparkling wine: scale, sustainability, infrastructure, and quality. With the largest vineyard in the UK, they plan on producing 5 million bottles per year by 2025; enjoy this while it is still a well-kept secret. All vineyards are managed organically, utilising techniques such as composting organic waste and collecting rainwater to minimise the vineyard’s impact on the environment. Their resources and infrastructure across the UK and France enable them to acquire the most talented team to produce top-notch wines, which deliver consistent quality across the board.

Silver Reign is a significant find – this is a Charmat style sparkling English wine (think prosecco in style) that was a Gold Medal winner at Effervescents du Monde in 2022.  A quality, slightly drier that it Italian sisters and without the price tag of a champagne.

  • Grapes: Pinot Noir/Pinot Meunier/Chardonnay.
  • Flavours: Citrus fruits, pears, green apples.
  • Food Pairings: Ideal as an aperitif. Perfect for Skye oysters, lobsters and langoustines. You have chosen Skye for a reason – you don’t accept second best. If Prosecco is your choice of sparkling wine, this is your only choice for enjoying an afternoon on Waternish, from the Fairy Bridge to Donnie’s Tablet Box.
